So sculpture was an interesting two weeks although i must admit i found it quite difficult and definitely don't think its for me. On the first day we had to think about our five senses. Roughly 8 sheets were put in the centre of the floor and we had to brainstorm. There was a diferent heading on each of the sheets such as "Temperature" "Smell" "Touch" and other words related to the five senses. It was a good exercise as it really got the brain thinking. After this we had to get another sheet and write out activities that related to the words. From this part of the exercise we had to pick out ten activities that really interested us and from that choose our final one which would be our activity for the project. I chose "to burn". At first i started off just burning a number of different materials such a paper, cardboard, fabric. bubblewrap and a load of things.
Here is an example of me burning paper ..
Here are some videos of my burning........
After this I got interested in the way that burning can transform something to be completely different and burnt materials like botttles, dolls and flowers which showed this very well. I particularly like the doll because it completely changed to a nice kids toy to a rotton scary looking doll.
I then decided to burn some CDs.. and made this sculpture. The idea i was goin for was that the got more and more burnt as they went down so you can see the transformation that takes place.

Graphics
So i havn't posted in a long time. Im not very good at this but i thought i should update it now. Graphics went really well for the two weeks . I really enjoyed it!.. On the first day we were told we would be given a metaphor and that would be the metaphor we would work with for the two weeks. My metaphor was "A Dim View". At first i had no idea what this meant but once i discovered the meaning i was off to work. For the first week we had to write our metaphor using only the lettering (no illustration ) .. At first i found it difficult but i then got the hang of it and will post up my finished piece later. For the next week we had to use illustration only and create an image that descried the meaning of our metaphor. I will also post up my final piece later. Overall i thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks

STREET LIGHTS AND CAR LIGHTS.
To change it up a bit from using just normal flashlights, sparklers and what not. I decided to try something different so i started photographing the street lights in town and passing cars. Here are some of the images...

For this last image i set the camera on the barrier of a bridge facing down at the roads so it would pick up the movement of the car lights. I thought this was very interesting as it was almost a form of controlled light movment. The light on the cars is controlled as the car follows the roads in different directions.
WORKING WITH FOIL
After making the sparkler out of foil, i decided to keep working with foil as i think it is interesting the way it reflects light. Many different shades can be created with foil depending on the way light is shining on it.
To test this i made this ..
I bent the foil in different direction and scrunched the foil and when moved about or when light is shone on it from different angles it changes and different areas of the piece light up.

You can see how the image changes as different sections of it light up each time.

MORE MOVING LIGHT
The next thing i wanted to do was look at different forms of moving light.
I was happy to get my hands on some sparklers as i knew these would make interesting images as it is very different to what i was using which was just simple lines of light.
Here are some of my sparkler paintings..
Simple hand drawing
Putting the sparklers onto the bicycle wheel and spinning ..

Random shapes
From the results i really liked the effect of the sparkler to show light movement.
Some work i did after working with sparklers..
I love the effect the sparkler makes and the way lines of light spread out in different directions. I decided to make something that could show this effect and i thought the best material to use was foil as it is very reflective.
Heres my 'foil sparkler'.
I then tested it by shining light on it and moving about and i wanted to see if it could create the effect of the sparkler and i was really happy with the results.
